Listening to your Body

For years, I treated my body as if it’s purpose was to be in service to my desires.
I shut my body’s voices off when she needed nurturing, rest, or was longing to be touched.
I was disconnected to her.
Through my practices such as meditation and free movement/dance, her voices started to grow louder and louder until I couldn’t ignore them anymore.
The voices both excited and frightened me.
I knew changes would come and that they were necessary, but I didn’t know if I was ready.
But, when are you really ready?
I silenced the voices of my mind and finally chose to listen to the expressions of my body…
I cried. I shed. Yet, never felt more complete.
– raw. awakened. wild. ruthless…. unapologetic in my evolution.

Re-connected ❤
My body is my sanctuary, my portal to this life. I will bless and honour her for as long as I possess this gift.
.
Do you listen to your body?
Are you doing anything that causes harm to your body?
What does your body long for?

P.S. I am using the coffee scrub I made in one of my last posts!

Coffee Mask & Scrub

Waste coffee grinds, no more!
There are so many amazing uses for coffee grounds, but using it as a mask & scrub has to be one of my favourites. One, because it smells so damn good, and secondly, because your skin feels incredible after.

You can also add different ingredients to your coffee grinds such as:

  • coconut oil – moisturising
  • olive oil – moisturising
  • brown sugar – extra exfoliation
  • tea tree oil – antibacterial, great for acne
  • lavender oil – calming, great for acne and scars
  • honey – moisturising and anti-bacterial (non-vegan option)

Benefits of exfoliation:

  • removes dead skin cells
  • helps unclog pores that can cause pimples
  • evens skin tone
  • increases cell turnover
  • helps increase the absorption of skin care products

Enjoy! Namasté.

Skin Positivity, Not Skin Perfection

7e7d773f-b7da-4f0d-a943-6de578f5cd03

I have been a skincare addict since I was a child, passed on by my mother who smothered my sister and I with lotion after every shower. I thank her. I learned to be responsible for the care of my skin. To listen to my skin and understand her. To nurture her. But, even through all the care I gave, skin problems arose. For most of us, this is inevitable.

We live in a society where media has brought upon us stigma and skin discrimination. There are thousands of skin conditions and millions of people struggling with these so called, “imperfections”, yet the media mostly shares only models with “perfect” complexion and photoshopped skin. Throughout my teens and young adulthood, I was sucked into this belief that my skin was ugly because of it’s imperfections, so I did what I thought was all I could do… buy cosmetics that will “fix” my skin, and cake my flaws with makeup. It took me YEARS of researching, self-diagnosing, and going within to finally treat my skin the way it was crying out to be treated and heal myself. My experience did not only leave physical scars… I am nearly 31 years old, and I am still healing.

A message to those who want to treat skin issues:
– it’s not just about what you put on your skin. It’s a balance and combination of mind, body, mental, and spiritual health.
– what you put into your body matters MOST. Drink plenty of water and stay away from refined sugar, dairy and meat.
– don’t put all your trust on every derma or doctor you visit.
– learn to listen to your body, especially your gut – your gut health matters sooo much.
– natural remedies and products that don’t have harmful chemicals are best. Beware of chemicals that can bleach, burn and irritate your skin.
– don’t give up. Be patient with your healing. All of our bodies work differently.

P.S. Your relationship with your skin is personal to you. What you may care about may not matter to someone else. Heal what you can but embrace what you can’t. And remember, WE ARE BEYOND ANY SHAPE OR COLOR.

I never thought I’d say this…

… but I was drawn to share this with you all after watching Happy Feet, last night. Orthopedic shoes are the best! If you’ve watched Grace and Frankie then you know which character I am (most likely) becoming… I’m currently OBSESSING over the wellness of my feet, and all because of one visit to (sound affect, dun dun duuuun)… Dr. Kong, the comfortable and healthy shoe company.

The reason why this was all so surprising to me was that I used to tease the shit out of one of my best friends in high school for wearing orthopedic Dr. Kong school shoes. L O L. I mean, it didn’t help that the shoes she wore were also for boys (she had big feet and my nickname for her was Twinkle Toes), but because of those specific and unaesthetically pleasing pair of Dr. Kong’s, I never thought a day would come where I would be wearing Dr. Kong shoes.

I don’t know about you, but I believe that the Universe is also a conscious being who brings forth into your life, situations, people and things that you consciously, and subconsciously attract or need in that moment. And so this is why, I believe, Dr. Kong is now in my life, hahaha.

It all started with an invite to check out their store in Robinsons Galleria. I was definitely hesitant at first, especially with my fashion background and history with the Kongs, haha 💁🏻‍♀️ but I knew that I had to have a foot-check-up because I saw that my old shoes flattened down where the arches used to be.

I was instantly inSOLD! 😆 My feet had never truly found comfort until that day! Those insoles made my feet cry with happiness. How sad I now feel to know that I have walked for 28+ years without giving a shit about my feet, and because of it, have caused a misalignment with my ankles. Something I could have prevented if I had only pushed my judgmental, teenage ego aside and listened to Rosie a.k.a Twinkle Toes.

I did mention to her that I got my very own pair of Dr. Kong’s and she was just as surprised as I… I was also surprised to see all the “hipper” styles of shoes and sandals in the store 😎. The pink sneakers caught my eye and they were super comfortable, especially worn with the insoles. I was very impressed with the overall experience; the staff were very knowledgeable and helpful, and the store was comfortable and clean.

I HIGHLY recommend visiting Dr. Kong even if it’s just for a check up, it’s free anyway! To know what’s going on down there is so important. These our very important parts of our bodies that we have been neglecting for years and years! I only wish that I was taught about the effects of flat feet and other foot problems much earlier in life, and this is why I’m taking time on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to share my story about my, now grateful, feet! 👣🙂🧡

P.S. I’m still on my orthopedic shoe journey but I want to share that I have come across life-changing arch support, vegan, and PVC-free flip-flops and sandals from Reef in Olympic Village, Ayala, Cebu. There are also other affordable brands that make arch support sandals available! Yay! I’ve also been looking online, but seriously, why are orthopedic shoes so fckin ugly!? Does anyone know of any brands that make “stylish” arch supported shoes for the flat-flooted? 🙏🏼 Write me a comment if you do! I will wifi hug you! Thank you!

All the best, and much love to your feet! ✌🏼️

Forearm balance

Forearm balance

Practicing forearm stand variations.

How to practice doing forearm stands, headstands, and handstands:

∞ practice against a wall

∞ if you must, push your legs up and lean your feet against the wall till you find your balance

∞ activate your core

∞ slowly push your feet away from the wall and find your balance

∞ you may start closer to the wall and when you feel more comfortable, move further and further away

∞ practice is the key, so don’t stop trying!

Good luck!
